Learning to Question Yourself

We all know the little saying: "That which does not kill you, can only make you stronger." Personally I believe that the same saying can apply to faith as well: That which does not kill your faith, can only make it stronger." As human beings, it is good to be tested once in a while. It seriously makes us stronger people. We go through tough times once in a while, but we normally come out of those times as stronger and probably much wiser people. That is why I encourage the idea of questioning yourself spiritually once in a while. Ask yourself why it is that you do what you do, or think what you think. As we grow and mature and experience more of what life has to offer, obviously our beliefs are going to change a bit. I look at what I believed and stood for during my senior year of high school, and I see many areas where those beliefs have changed drastically. I wouldn't say that my beliefs were wrong back then, nor would I say that my beliefs are wrong now when I look at where a stand a year from now.

So I'm currently questioning one particular view point I used to have as a child, and I'm wondering if it still definitely makes sense to me, and I have realized that it really doesn't. During a theological discussion I was having the other day, I was informed that what I was saying on that subject is complete blasphemy. I was accused of trying to bring down all of Christianity because I have the nerve to look at a passage and wonder if perhaps it wasn't meant to be literal, and was more figurative.
